Ángel Toviah Sheppard (born July 11, 1993) is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenseman playing for the San Francisco Blades in the National Hockey Association (NHA). He was considered one of the best defensemen to play for Canada's national Juniors team, recording at least one point in every game for three years in a row. Sheppard was drafted first overall by the Montreal Wanderers in the 2011 NHA Entry Draft.

Angel is the son of the late Biel Sheppard, who had also played for the Wanderers.

Public information

Angel's mother, Biel Sheppard, was a superstar and the face of the Montreal Wanderers before she was assassinated in 2004. Angel was only eleven years old at the time. Biel's partner and teammate, Charlie Belrose, continued to support the Sheppard family.

Angel was drafted by the Montréal Wanderers first overall in the 2011 NHA Entry Draft. Montréal had forfeited their second and third round picks in order to secure Angel as the first overall pick. He exceeded expectations and became a starting defenseman alongside mentor Jakey Goldstrom.

During the 2014 NHA partial lockout, the team that Angel was playing for, Malmö IK, unexpectedly ceased operations and declared bankruptcy. He did not sign with any other teams during the lockout. After months of radio silence, Angel returned to Montréal to train alongside the Wanderers in preparation of the 2015-16 season.

The Montreal Wanderers traded Angel the summer before the 2017-18 season due to internal conflicts. He was sent to the San Francisco Blades in exchange for the Blades' first round pick in the 2018 NHA Entry Draft.
